The iND - AVPC is the one board one drive personal computer solution for the new video age.
It allows a PC to be transformed into a high definition digital video recorder without the
need for additional drives. Video content is secure but movable using industry prescribed
methods of copy protection.
The AVPC is powered by Shin-Digita's custom CMOS PVR/DVR solution used in set-top boxes from
original equipment manufacturers. A single circuit board tucks neatly into an existing
3.5 inch disk bay and connects to the existing drive by SATA cables from the motherboard
and drive. Secure video storage is possible by the use of a protected proprietary encrypted
partition on the existing PC hard drive. Drive usage is automatically shared with the
operating system to allow simultaneous use of the drive for video and computer purposes.
Attaching the AVPC to the computer's IEEE-1394 Firewire allows the computer to be seen to
the digital television as an attached AV device without the computer's awareness. No
additional software is required to run on the computer for AV functionality. The AV
device is controllable through the television's remote control using industry standard
AV commands. Through the TV's remote control, recording, playback and movement of
recorded material are possible. Trick play controls such as pause play, fast forward
and fast reverse at multiple speeds are possible.
Safe guarding of recorded material starts in the AVPC through the use of a proprietary
single-chip high security AV content manager. Using DTCP 5C encryption
methodology, the AVPC communicates with the digital television to receive rotating
key encrypted material from the television's tuner via the IEEE-1394 bus. The stream
is recorded to the PC's hard drive in encrypted form on a proprietary partition not
accessible from PC's operating system. Playback of the stream to the TV is performed
with the same methodology ensuring that recorded content is always safe. The AV Move
command (including Japan's "Dubbing-10" technology) is available to move recorded content
with copy rights to other devices like Blu-Ray recorders.
